May 17, 1938 - March 16, 2026 (Age 87)

Kittery, Maine — Norma Alice Patterson, 87, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026.

Norma was born on May 17, 1938, in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of Alton and Marion (Grindle). She grew up in Bucksport and graduated from Bucksport High School in 1956. She went on to attend Wheelock College, graduating in 1960 with a degree in Early Childhood Education, and later earned her master's degree from the University of Maine at Orono.

In 1969, Norma married Ronald Patterson. Together they raised their four children: Jay, Martha, Paul, and Eric.

Norma dedicated her professional life to educating young children. She taught elementary school in Orland and Bucksport, including positions at Orland Elementary School, the Luman Warren School—where she also served as Acting Principal—and G.H. Jewett School. Deeply committed to her community, Norma was instrumental in the campaign to save Fort Knox in Prospect, Maine, co-chairing the Children's Campaign with Friends of Fort Knox.

In retirement, Ron and Norma made their home in Englewood, Florida, where they formed countless friendships, enjoyed golf, and delighted in many dinner parties. Norma had a lifelong passion for music and directed the Park Forest Chorus for many years, a role that brought her great joy.

Norma was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; her son, Paul; her parents; her brother, Bob Grindle; and her sister, Jean Carville.

She will be deeply missed by her children: Jay and his wife Leslie of Kittery, Maine; Martha of Brewer, Maine; and Eric and his wife Lisa of York, Maine. "Mammy" will also be dearly missed by her four granddaughters, Stevi Ann Seamans and her husband Dave, Carly Patterson and her husband Ayxan, and Ella and Lucy; as well as her great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Roselyn, Paige, and Daxton Seamans. She is also lovingly remembered by her niece, nephew, and cousins.
