Norman Frank Laskay (Norm) born July 3, 1941 in Lorraine, Ohio passed away at home in New Orleans on October 13, 2025 surrounded by his family and beloved dogs, Bella and Olive Grace. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Leslie Weathersby Laskay; daughter Socea Laskay May (Brian); preceded in death by his son Joshua Laskay (Julie); He leaves behind his cherished brothers- and sisters- in -law, Sr. Pam Weathersby MSC; Shad Weathersby (Angie) Kimberly Weathersby Normand (Louie); and numerous nieces and nephews; Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Anne Socea Laskay; and his brother Donald Laskay. Norman graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1962 and served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War. He worked in the maritime industry for more than 60 years. After serving at sea and beginning his career as a marine surveyor, Norman joined Dufour, Laskay and & Strouse in 1988, becoming a partner and helping shape the firm into one of the most respected names in marine appraisal and surveying. Over his decades with DLS, he combined deep technical knowledge with a calm, steady leadership style that inspired confidence among clients and colleagues alike. Beyond his work within the firm, Norman was widely recognized as a leader in the marine appraisal industry. He served for many years with the American Society of Appraisers, where he helped establish national standards for marine valuation and taught courses to surveyors around the world. He loved sharing stories from his early seafaring days and took great pride in seeing younger surveyors grow in their craft. His thoughtful mentorship, sharp wit, and unwavering professionalism left a lasting mark on both his colleagues and the entire maritime community. Norman touched many lives and was affectionately known as the Great MOOF.

He was an active member of St Andrews Episcopal Church where he loved to volunteer his time and knowledge, especially the feeding ministry which was dear to his heart. Norman will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and humor - a generous spirit whose legacy continues to guide those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Celebration of life services will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1031 S. Carrollton Ave., New Orleans on November 8, 2025 at 10:00 am. Reception following at The Charlstrom House.
