With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Norman Perkins on March 2, 2026, who left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by his devoted family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Though cancer tested his body, it never took away his spirit or the love he gave so freely. He faced his illness with quiet courage, supported by the family he treasured most.
To know Norman was to know kindness. He was truly one of the gentlest souls; a man with the biggest heart, always ready to help and always thinking of others before himself. He had a special place in his heart for animals and went to great lengths to care for and protect them. His compassion for animals reflected the depth of his character: patient, steady, and selfless.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Norman served his country with honor and carried that same sense of dedication and integrity throughout his life. He was a man of quiet strength, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family.
Norman wore many hats throughout his life. He worked as a gas line inspector at Algonquin Gas Company, a car mechanic at Sears Automotive, and a welder at General Electric in Plainville, CT, but his primary profession was as a motor mechanic at Eddy Electric Motor Company in Southington, CT.
Above all else, he cherished his beloved wife, Donna, whom he lovingly called "my Donna." She was the love of his life, and he made sure everyone knew it. Their marriage was built on devotion and deep partnership; a bond that remained strong through every season of life.
Norman is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Donna; his children Jessica (Matthew), George (fiancée Lynn), and Stephen (Cortney). He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda, and granddaughter Emily. He is also survived by his brothers Bern (Ann) and Ron (Rose) and his sister Helen. Norman also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was a proud and loving father and grandfather. He shared a particularly close and special bond with his daughter Jessica; sister-in-law Pamela; and grandchildren Miranda, Abby, and Matty, who brought him immense pride and joy. His love for all his children and grandchildren was deep and enduring, and the care and guidance he gave them will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
He found comfort in life's simple pleasures: being at home with his family and pets and listening to his favorite oldies music. Those familiar songs will forever carry memories of him. He also enjoyed yard work, gardening, and working on his power equipment. He was especially proud of the fact that he kept his Sears riding mower going for over 20 years.
Norman leaves behind a legacy of compassion, honor, and unconditional love. The world is better for having had him in it, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His kindness toward others, his deep love for animals, and his devotion to his family will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
His life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Southington on April 11 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Carmah Cat Rescue (Carmah.org) or to the animal rescue charity of your choice.
