Norman Robert Sheldon Jr., passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness. Norm was a loving and dedicated son to the late June and Norman Sheldon Sr. He was a beloved brother, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.

Norman was born in Medford and was a life-long resident of Peabody. He was a natural-born teacher, a gifted communicator, outdoor enthusiast and history aficionado.

Norm graduated from Peabody High School, received his Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Southern Maine, a Master's Degree from Salem State College where he was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He also studied Native American History at the University of New Mexico.

Norm spent most of his career working with his father and brother to grow the family mattress business. He worked several years as a History Professor as well as an educator in the private sector.

In his early years, Norm would make his annual trek out West with friends and family to hike and camp. His adventures would take him to Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, the Grand Tetons and as far north as Alaska. He would eagerly share his wild animal encounter stories and adventures with family back home.

Norman is survived by his brother and best friend, Fred Sheldon, his sisters and brother-in-law's, Linda and Gary Gilardi, Jeanne and Gerard Gagnon Sr., Jill and Gregory Cohan Sr. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Roy.

Norm leaves behind many nieces and nephews Brandi Gilardi, Kristina (Gilardi) Flanagan, Dr. Gerard Gagnon Jr., Jill Gilardi, Garret Gagnon, Jamie (Gagnon) Kenney, Angel Roy, Lindsey Cohan, Jennifer (Gagnon) Haeck, Greg Cohan Jr. and Cody Cohan.

He was also the Great Uncle of Alexia, Zack, Lucas, Janella, Max, Caleb, Maddie, Liam and Evie.

Private services were previously held at Puritan Lawn Cemetery. Donations in Norm's memory can be sent to the "Greater Yellowstone Coalition", 215 S Wallace Ave, Bozeman, MT, 59715, please memo Norm's name on the check. Online "In Memory Of" donations can be made at greateryellowstone.org/donate.
