Norman Charles "Norm" Skidmore, 85, formerly from Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Born on May 30, 1940, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Norm lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, career, and passions.
A proud graduate of Battle Creek High School in 1958, Norm began his professional journey at Post Cereals in 1962. Over the years, he held various production roles across the company's facilities before retiring from the storeroom. His time at Post not only defined much of his career but also introduced him to Lynette Skidmore, who would become his beloved wife. The two were married on August 23, 1975, blending their families and creating a loving home together.
Norm was first married to Alice J. Robinson in 1960. Together they welcomed three children: Cary (Brian) Blodgett and Beth Skidmore Warner survive him; their son Jeffry Skidmore predeceased him. Following their divorce, Norm found love again with Lynette. Through their union, he embraced three stepchildren as his own: Jeffery (Tracy) Bissett, Sherri (Mark) Gregory, and Christine (Steve) Swofford.
In addition to his daughters and stepchildren, Norm is survived by numerous grandchildren: Jason Stanton; Randy Stanton (Halsey); Angie Stanton; Ryan Stanton; Lance (Abei) Skidmore; Adam Skidmore; Ben (Jenna) Stamp; and Melody (Kevin) Lambert. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. His extended family includes many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren who cherished him deeply.
Norm was predeceased by his parents Lu and Marion Skidmore; his siblings Mary Lou (Dick) Devereaux, Gerald Skidmore, and Ronald Skidmore; his wife Lynette; his son Jeff Skidmore; and a step-granddaughter Jennifer Corby.
Throughout his life, Norm found joy in sports and recreation. In his younger years, he played softball and basketball for Post Cereal leagues. Later in life, he developed a passion for golf and traveling. After retiring with Lynette, the couple became snowbirds—splitting their time between Sandy Pines in Michigan and their home in Lakeland Harbor, Florida. Eventually settling year-round in Florida allowed them to fully embrace the sunshine-filled lifestyle they loved so much. Their home became a hub for family gatherings where memories were made and laughter shared.
Norm’s legacy is one of love for family and an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures—whether it was playing sports with friends or hosting loved ones at their Florida retreat. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.
May those who knew him find comfort in remembering the warmth of his presence and the joy he brought into their lives.
