Mr Norman Gunnar Swalgren passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026. He was born in Chicago, IL on February 5, 1941 and raised in Lake Bluff, a son of the late Gunnar Swalgren and the late Harriet Solomonson.

Norm was a standout athlete at Lake Forrest High School (IL) playing multiple sports. He graduated from Coe & Carthage College, as well as the FBI Academy. He served as a police officer in Highland Park, IL and retired there as Deputy Chief. While doing all of this he started & raised a family in Deerfield, IL.
Later he served as Director of Security at Abbot Labs.
In 1993 Norman and his wife Sheila retired to Lexington, SC where he was President of Lexington Country Club, served in the Rotary Club and worked with juvenile delinquents.
In 2002 Norman bought Siesta Cove Marina & RV Park which became his modus operandi.

Mr. Swalgren is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sheila Swalgren; his sister, Eleanor Borders, his son, David Swalgren (Kim); his son, Steven Swalgren (Tonya); his six grandchildren, Kyle (Haley), Tara (Judson), Madeline (Sam), Logan, Matthew, and Michael; his great grandchild, Callan: bonus grandchildren, Kinsey, Kassie, Kallie, Khloe, (Trey); many special nieces and nephews; and friends.

A Memorial Celebration for Norman will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Siesta Cove Marina & RV Park in Gilbert, SC. Burial will take place later at Northshore Garden of Memories North Chicago.
Dress code will be respectfully casual.
