Ofelia Diaz Barriga (Smith-Ross), aged 77, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, in Columbus, OH. Born on December 10, 1948, in Michoacan, Mexico. Ofelia was known for her forthright nature, deep love for her family, and devout faith. She was a believer and knower of Christ and his power. Her life was marked by her dedication to those in need, helping others, and her passion for her home and family.
Ofelia's professional journey was marked by her resilience and determination. She managed her own beautician business from 1975 to 1980 and later worked at Anomatic Corporation as a supervisor in Westerville and Newark, Ohio, from 1983 until her early retirement in 2002 due to bone cancer. Her earlier roles included being a Hostess Floor Supervisor at Holiday Inn Downtown-Columbus from 1974 to 1977. Her educational journey included Nationwide Beauty Academy, graduating with top honors.
A skilled seamstress, Ofelia created beautiful dresses for herself and clothes for her daughter, and engaged in home arts & crafts. Her hobbies also included gardening, cooking, and traveling. She had a love for Jazz, R&B, and Latin music, and enjoyed watching YouTube, TLC, and 90-Day Fiancé. Moments spent with her granddaughter were cherished deeply.
Ofelia never had a driver's license; therefore worshipped primarily at her home, reflecting her personal and intimate relationship with her faith. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Crystal Maria Smith; devoted granddaughter, Kennedy Naomi Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends through blood and marriage. She was preceded in death by her cherished mother, Maria Diaz Barrriga; cherished son, Chevez Dominic Smith; devoted life partner, Robert Jones; and her loved siblings: Benjamin, Inez, Reinalba, Fidel, Natividad, and Rosabla .
