Olin Montgomery Avery, 79, passed away on February 7, 2026, in Carr, Colorado at his home. Born on January 23, 1947, in Geneva, New York, Olin lived a life filled with compassion, music, knowledge and love.

Olin attended Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva. He left school in his last trimester to help on his parent's farm after his mother suffered injuries from an accident.

He worked at Libby's Canning Factory in Seneca County and Evans Chemetics in Waterloo before moving to Colorado. There, he joined Kodak in Greeley and later embarked on a remarkable 30-year tenure with Hewlett-Packard and its successor companies—Agilent Technologies, Avago Technologies, and Broadcom—working from 1994 until his retirement in 2024. His dedication and work ethic left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Olin’s personal life was equally rich.
He met Pat Weber in Texas with a shared love for his dog, Fang. They married in 1972. They lived in several states before returning to upstate NY together.
Together they raised two children: Adam Avery and Melissa (Avery) Biesemeier. He instilled in his family a love for learning, music, and the natural world.

Olin was a gifted and knowledgeable blues guitarist since his teens. He possessed a driving passion for the instrument itself, owning a few pieces that dated back to his high school years and prior.
Olin also often insisted on owning an upright piano, although not very proficient on it.
He felt it very important to have music in your life and available at your reach.

His passion for music extended beyond performance; he was an avid concertgoer who found inspiration in live performances. He shared his love for playing and attending live music with his children, and thus it was passed to his grandchildren as well.

A devoted Yankees fan, Olin spent time watching baseball games as well as football. He often wore his Yankees hat and would talk sports with his co-workers.

Olin’s love for animals was evident throughout his life. He shared this passion with his family by raising not only common pets but also more unusual ones. His appreciation for nature extended beyond animals; he delighted in sharing books about wildlife with his children and grandchildren while introducing them to the wonders of microscopes, telescopes, and the great outdoors.

An avid reader with a keen interest in history and science, Olin enjoyed both historical fiction and nonfiction work. He loved to share his favorite literature with friends and family as well.

Olin is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth O. Hilligus (Avery) (1909–1974) and Leon P. Avery (1985–1991).

Olin Montgomery Avery will be remembered for his humor, kindness, creativity, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on through the countless memories he created with family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
