Ollie Carl Schrank was born on October 28, 1927, in the quaint town of Priddy, Texas. He was the youngest of five cherished children welcomed by Edward and Frieda (Rost) Schrank. He peacefully passed away on May 4, 2023, in Round Rock, Texas, at the age of 95 years and 6 months, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frieda, and his siblings, Benjamin, Oleta, Elvira and Myrtle.
On January 8, 1954, Ollie married the love of his life, Betty LaJuan Barnes in Andrews, Texas. Their union was blessed with 69 years of happiness, and they built a beautiful family together. Ollie and Betty have three children: Mark, Karen, and Lynn, who brought immeasurable joy into their lives.
Ollie proudly served in the US Air Corps from 1948 to 1952, reading weather maps for pilots flying into Germany. He later attended Daniel Baker College, earning a degree in business administration. Utilizing his map-reading skills, Ollie embarked on a 35-year career with Amoco Oil.
In retirement, Ollie & Betty settled in New Braunfels, TX. It was here that Ollie enjoyed the golden years of his life, pursuing his lifelong hobby of hunting for arrowheads, something he picked up as a child after finding arrowheads on the family farm. He also enjoyed spending time at home tending the garden, helping his neighbors, and watching and playing tennis. Among these hobbies Ollie found his passion in studying Native American artifacts and local Texas pottery produced in the 1800s. His study led to collaborations with scholars from nearby Universities and published articles on these subjects.
Ollie leaves behind a legacy of love and enduring memories, survived by his adoring wife, Betty, his accomplished son Mark, and his loving daughters Karen (and spouse David Veillon) and Lynn (and spouse Dan Pitts). His spirit continues to echo in the lives of his precious grandchildren: Phillip Bergeron (and wife Zulmy Galindo), Lori Bergeron, Nicholas Veillon, Bradan Pitts (and wife Savannah), Erin Hardaway (and husband Sam), Kailey Schubel (and husband Holden), and Sara Carpenter (and husband Loyal).
Ollie's legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Naya Galindo-Bergeron, Justice Pitts, Merrick Pitts, and West Carpenter. These precious children will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandfather's unwavering love, support for family, and the incredible life he lived.
Ollie was a beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He will be greatly missed & fondly remembered.
