Ouida Marie Neil (née Gatter), age 89, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Denver, Colorado.
Born on July 26, 1936, in Evanston, Illinois, to Ouida George and Fred W Gatter, Ouida grew up with a deep appreciation for learning and a keen interest in understanding the human mind. She pursued her academic passions at Northwestern University, where she earned a degree in Psychology. Her education laid the foundation for a life marked by curiosity, insight, and thoughtful engagement with the students she served in her 30+ years of work as a Child Psychologist for the school districts in and around Colorado Springs.
Throughout her life, Ouida embraced both adventure and leisure. She was an avid golfer who found joy and camaraderie on the fairways of the Broadmoor Golf Club. Her love of travel led her to explore the world by sea—cruising became one of her favorite pastimes—offering her opportunities to experience new cultures and landscapes while enjoying the serenity of life at sea.
Ouida's legacy lives on through her family. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Harris A. Neil III and Robert W. Neil; her son-in-law, Rito Vasquez; her daughter-in-law, Susan (Bokun) Neil; and her grandchildren: Brittany M. Neil, Robert W. Neil Jr., and Rebecca A. Neil.
A memorial service will be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
