Obituary for Patricia "Pat" Bolender Burchett
Patricia "Pat" Bolender Burchett, 83, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, entering into the presence of the Lord surrounded by the love of her family.
Pat was born on May 17 in Brewton, Alabama. She graduated from T.R. Miller High School before pursuing higher education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Troy State University and later her Master of Arts degree from the University of Alabama. Her academic dedication reflected a lifelong commitment to learning, growth, and excellence.
She dedicated her life to education and the nurturing of young minds. Pat served as a school teacher and later as a middle school librarian at Rusheon Middle School, where her love of literature and learning left a lasting mark on generations of students. An extraordinary writer and lifelong learner, she believed deeply in the power of words and the importance of education. In recognition of her impact on the community and her professional excellence, she was honored as the National Bank of Bossier Woman of the Month.
While teaching English at Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, she met the love of her life, Dewey E. Burchett Jr., then a pilot stationed at Hurlburt Field. Their first date was to see To Kill a Mockingbird, a story of integrity and conviction that mirrored the values they both held dear. Their marriage was a testament to devotion, partnership, and faith. Judge Burchett preceded her in death.
Pat was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Benton Methodist Church. Her faith was the foundation of her life and was evident in her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for others. She was an avid bridge player, a gracious friend, and truly one of the most giving people anyone could know.
Above all, Pat was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Dewey Burchett III and his wife Tamara Burchett, and Edward Burchett and his wife Crissy Burchett; and her beloved grandchildren, Katherine Burchett and Eldridge Burchett. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured into them the same wisdom, strength, and compassion that defined her life.
Pat will be remembered for her intellect, her gentle spirit, her generosity, and the quiet strength of her character. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched — in classrooms, in her church, at the bridge table, and most especially within her family.
Visitation will be held on March 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Benton Methodist Church, immediately followed by a celebration of life from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Brad Franklin.
