It is with profound sadness that the family of Patricia Groome Johnson shares the passing of our beloved and deeply devoted mother, grandmother (Mimi), and great grandmother. Pat departed this life peacefully, surrounded by her family and close friends on February 6, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Tommy Johnson, and her parents, Harold V. Groome Sr. and Dorothy Marshall Groome. She is survived by her three children, Rodney Johnson, Tricia Jones (Mark), and Owen Johnson (Kim); six grandchildren, Kayla Carpenter (Josh), Blair Mallory (Ryan), Garrett Jones (Jordan), Bryce Jones, 2nd Lt. Lane Johnson USAF (Eva), Brianne Johnson (Reilly); and four beloved great-grandchildren, Bodie, Patrick, Wade, and Addison; her sister Pam Wilbourne, who was also her life-long best friend, companion, and confidant and her loving brother Harold Groome Jr. Pat leaves behind many other admiring nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
Pat was born on July 20, 1943 in Richmond, VA and later resided in Appomattox, VA before settling in Mechanicsville for the majority of her adult life. She graduated from Hermitage High School and later attended Ferrum Junior College where she majored in finding the perfect husband and passed with flying colors! Though most of her working years were spent at her father's transportation business, the job she excelled in most was being a selfless wife and mother.
Pat lived life with an undeniable zest that could be felt when she walked into a room—or a restaurant. Few things made her happier than heading out to lunch with friends or family, savoring good food, and turning an ordinary afternoon into a memory. She especially loved cracking into a pile of crabs, taking her time, laughing through the mess with those she loved. She adored glitz and glamor in all its forms, always with style, sparkle, and a flair for the fabulous. Whether it was a shoreline, a restaurant table, or a gathering of friends to play bridge she was always the last to leave. She always lingered for just one more moment, embracing every ounce of joy. Her wit was effortless and life was simply more fun when she was in the room.
Her greatest legacy is how deeply and unconditionally she loved her family and friends, for it was the truest reflection of who she was. Pat loved the Lord and we are comforted knowing she has been reunited with the love of her life as well as Jesus Christ our savior.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research—a disease that impacted her family.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 10, 2026 at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Rd., with a memorial service immediately following. A private interment will take place at a later date.
