Patricia Louise Morey

In her early childhood, many school mornings began with a frantic family search for my sister Pat's shoes.

While she liked school - Pat simply hated shoes.

Born Patricia Louise Morey on September 11, 1952, Pat Morey, a well known and peer respected advocate for women's equality at the University of Illinois passed into the care of Our Lord on November 25, 2025.

Pat graduated from Indianapolis' Cardinal Ritter High School and the Indiana State University. She completed the Master of Social Work and the Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois.

Before becoming the Assistant Dean and Director of the Women's Resource Center from 1992 to June 2017 at the University of Illinois, Pat's dogged can-do spirit brought hope and safety to marginalized women in bad domestic situations.

Early in her career, Pat and seven other women started Growing Strong Sexual Assault Center in Decatur, IL; Pat served as the first director. After Pat moved to Champaign-Urbana, she was a passionate Director of Rape Crisis Services for seven years.

(With the help of law enforcement, Pat often personally removed women and children from harm's way.)

Her enormously contagious smile and impossibly curly hair gave Pat a larger than life image, one she lived up to as a beloved aunt, daughter, sister, friend and colleague.

Pat took little from others and gave freely to all she encountered.

Pat was preceded in passing by her father, Robert Morey Sr, her mother, Patricia A Lawrence, stepfather Bob Lawrence and her younger brother Thomas Morey.

Pat left behind loved ones including: her beloved dog Billie, sister Mary Crider (Dan), brothers Steve Morey (Julie), and Bob Morey (Robbin), stepbrothers: Jim Lawrence (Theresa) Tony Lawrence, Chris Lawrence (Lisa) and stepsisters: Debra Beaty (Jack), Markita Daulton (Mark), six nieces and nephews: Kevin Morey, Denise Gann, Kimberly Tester, Joshua Morey, Tracey Morey, and Danny Crider and too many friends and coworkers to mention.

The family wishes a special thanks to Pat's dear friend Valerie Gebhardt.

Pat will be lovingly missed by so many.

Services are scheduled for December 27, 2025. Visitation is 10:00 AM (EST) at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, Greenwood, IN, with a mass of Christian Burial at noon (EST). The mass will be live streamed and may be viewed on the parish YouTube channel: youtube.com/@olgreenwoodchurch or on Facebook at: facebook.com/OurLadyGreenwood. Procession to St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery and grave side service to follow. 

The family extends an invitation to join us for a meal immediately following the graveside service at Our Lady of The Greenwood Catholic Church in McGivney Hall (lower level).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association, the ASPCA, or to the Patricia L. Morey scholarship fund at the School of Social Work, UIUC.
