Patrick “Padraic” “Patsy” McDonough, age 90, of Quincy, died peacefully, Monday, January 12, 2026 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Patrick was born in Lettercallow, County Galway, Ireland, to the late Annie (Daly) and Patrick McDonough. Raised and educated there, he immigrated to the United States in 1957, settling in South Boston and then Dorchester where he lived before moving to Quincy thirty years ago.
He was employed as a laborer for Local 223 for over forty years.
Pat enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden, especially his tomatoes which he loved giving away to family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and loved having company over to share his jokes. His greeting was always, “How do you like this country?” and his parting quip was “Thanks for not staying too long!”

Devoted father of Patrick J. McDonough and his wife Robin of Canton.
Loving grandfather of Kyle and Jake McDonough.
One of thirteen siblings, Pat is survived by his sister Kate Folan of Quincy and was predeceased by Michael McDonough, Nellie Shaw, Mary O’Laughlin, Festus McDonough, Barbara McDonough, Joseph McDonough, Sean McDonough, Bridget Flynn, Thomas McDonough, Nancy Hardie, and Nora Mobbs.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Tuesday, January 20, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Wednesday, January 21, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
