Paul Michael Owens-Troupe, 44, passed away in his Brooklyn home with his mother at his side on Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at 1:35 pm. Paul was born in Garland, Texas, on Friday, May 1st, 1981 at 11:23 am, to Rene’ Owens. Paul is survived by his mother Rene’ Owens (Billings, Montana), brother Matthew Norris (Fort Smith, Montana), sister Jessica Norris (Austin, Texas), sister Chelsea Troupe-Reily (North Richland Hills, Texas), and his father, Mark Troupe (Eueless, Texas).
Paul was Valedictorian of his graduating class at ITT Tech in 2012 in Austin, Texas, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems Security. Paul was a talented artist and dancer. He enjoyed helping others, making people laugh, and listening to music. Since his diagnosis in 2009, Paul was a powerful advocate for ending the stigma against HIV/AIDS. Paul was an avid runner, cyclist, and circus performer. Since sustaining a traumatic brain injury in 2022, Paul loved visiting with family and caring for his two cats, Gyzmo and Zuko.
Paul was a crucial link to his communities in Austin, Texas and in Brooklyn, New York. He was an excellent big brother and a loving son. He was a loyal friend and a caring neighbor. Thank you to everyone involved in touching his life. He is and will always be sorely missed. The world will shine a little dimmer with him gone. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Austin, Texas.
