Paul Schultz, M.D. passed away on April 8th, 2025 at the age of 85. Paul was born on January 21st, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the middle of three children to Arthur and Cele Schultz. Paul attended Swissvale High School and the University of Pittsburgh, where he played trumpet in the marching band. He met his wife, Joan, on a blind date, and they were married in 1962. He attended the University Pittsburgh Medical School after only three years of college and then did two years of a pediatrics residency at Pitt. After completing his third year of pediatric training at Bellevue in New York, he completed a three-year neurology residency at the University of Pennsylvania. After two years in the army with the rank of major at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Paul moved to San Diego in 1972. He, with his partner, became the first pediatric neurologist in San Diego practicing at San Diego Children's Hospital (later Rady Children's Hospital) and at UCSD. He would go on to establish the largest Muscular Dystrophy Clinic in the western United States appearing annually on the Jerry Lewis Labor Day telethon. He also travelled to El Centro several times a month to run a clinic and read EEG's. Unfortunately, he was forced to retire earlier than he would have preferred due to Parkinson's Disease. Paul was the ritual chairman of Congregation Beth El in La Jolla and the national president of Camp Ramah having attended the camp in Wisconsin as a camper and later serving as the camp doctor in Ojai.
Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan, his son, Andy (wife Marisa), and daughter, Laura, as well as granddaughters Emily and Rebecca.
Paul led an extremely meaningful life and offered comfort, support, and love to everyone around him. He will be missed. May his memory forever be a blessing.
