Peggy (Margaret) Proto

Peggy (Margaret) Proto passed away on December 11, 2025, in Miamisburg, Ohio after a short battle with Glioblastoma. She was born on September 30, 1947, in New York City, New York, to Cambridge Graham Beckel and Ellen Gilliland Beckel.

Peggy spent her high school years in Old Lyme, Connecticut, graduating in 1965. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Bryant College in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1973. Education remained a lifelong calling for Peggy. She taught business education at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School in Whitman, Massachusetts, and later served as a preschool and kindergarten teacher assistant at Frank Nicholas Elementary School in Moraine, Ohio, and Collierville Elementary School in Collierville, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Edward Proto; her mother-in-law, Lena Proto; and her brother, Robert Gilliland Beckel.

Peggy is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Domenic J. Proto; her daughters, Ashley Proto and Tiffany Proto; her beloved grandchildren, Gabriella Benros and Sebastian Benros; her brother, Graham "Buddy" Beckel; sisters-in-law Lisa Beckel and Leland Keyser; nephews Cooper Beckel and Alex Beckel; and nieces Mackenzie Beckel, Annie Beckel, and Charlotte Beckel.

Peggy loved her friends as family, and over the course of living in seven states, she did an admirable job of keeping close and meaningful connections with them. She especially cherished her beloved S&B group, whose friendship brought her great joy throughout her life.

Peggy was deeply committed to her community. She was a member of the Welcome Wagon of Miami Township, TWIGs, and Harry Russell PTO. She served on the West Carrollton Parks and Recreation Board, and the West Carrollton Soccer Association Board. Peggy was a proud member of the Miamisburg Moose Lodge.

In keeping with her generous spirit, Peggy donated her body to Wright State Medical School. She will be laid to rest in Bristol, Rhode Island. A local celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Peggy's memory to The Cure Starts Now Foundation and the Glioblastoma Foundation.

Peggy will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to education, devotion to family, and the enduring friendships she nurtured throughout her life.
