Peter Bonelli

1954 - 2026

Peter Bonelli, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1 at his home in Atlantic Beach, Florida.
Born in Stigliano, Italy, Peter immigrated to the United States in 1959 at a young age. He embraced his new life with determination, quickly adapting and excelling in school. He attended Cardinal Spellman High School and went on to study at Hofstra University.
Peter carried a deep love for New York throughout his life, while never losing his strong connection to his Italian roots. He found great joy in cooking for family and friends, often adding his own signature flair—usually a generous touch of hot peppers—to traditional dishes.
His kindness was felt by all who knew him. Peter was funny, intelligent, and gentle, with a quiet warmth that drew people in. He was a talented guitarist and a devoted jazz enthusiast, as well as a skilled craftsman with a meticulous eye for detail. He appreciated the beauty of nature and art, had a soft spot for animals, and spent much of his time reflecting on politics, religion, and the world around him. An avid reader with a wide range of interests, Peter welcomed both intellectual challenges and spirited debates, always encouraging those he loved to think deeply, to think critically and to grow. He also took great pride in gardening, nurturing plants with patience and care.
In 1997, Peter moved to North Florida, where he became a cherished neighbor and friend. Generous with his time and talents, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed biking to the beach, tending to his yard, and hosting family during their visits.
Peter is survived by his sisters, Angela and Luanne; his brother, Anthony; and many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the quiet, meaningful ways he made life more beautiful for those around him. We will keep his light alive in our hearts.
May his beautiful soul rest in peace.
