Peter Gibbes

Peter Lawrence "Pete" Gibbes, 68, passed away on August 15, 2025, in Greene County, Virginia. He was born on October 28, 1956, in Albemarle County, Virginia.

Pete graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1974 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. His dedication to lifelong learning was evident in his pursuit of both CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and CFP (Certified Financial Planner) certifications.

He built a distinguished career as a financial analyst, ultimately serving as Senior Vice President for Quantitative Analysis at Lowe Brockenbrough Investment Corporation in Richmond. In this role, Pete combined analytical precision with strategic insight, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

Known for his dry wit and quiet humor, Pete brought levity and warmth to those around him. A lifelong lover of music, he found particular joy in drumming—rhythm was central to how he experienced the world. As a young man, summers spent on a friend's farm on Virginia's Eastern Shore led him to adopt a lacto-vegetarian lifestyle after forming close bonds with the animals there—a commitment he honored throughout his life.

Pete is lovingly remembered by his son Daniel Cullen Gibbes; daughter-in-law Sammi Springer Gibbes; and grandson Peter Tony Gibbes. He also leaves behind his life companion in retirement, Susan Singhas; his brother Dorsey Cullen Gibbes of Mystic, Connecticut; and sister Catherine Spotswood Gibbes of Lincoln, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his father Daniel Leonidas Gibbes Jr. and mother Elizabeth Cullen Miller Gibbes.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in Pete's memory may be made to St John's Chapel (Episcopal) in Louisa County, no-kill animal shelters, or Greene County Emergency Medical Services.
