Commander Peter J Glor, USN (Ret.) of Escondido, CA passed away on March 24, 2026 in San Marcos, surrounded by loved ones. Peter was born to Ora Elizabeth (Putney) Glor (Newton) and Eldon Merritt Glor on January 25, 1944 in Batavia, NY.
Peter graduated from Tonawanda High School in 1963, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an Engineering/Math Minor from Purdue University (Class of 1967). He furthered his education with a Master of Arts in Political Science and Industrial Management from Iowa State University in 1973 as an Associate Professor of Naval Science and Nuclear Power Orientation Officer.
Peter proudly served in Vietnam, earning the Navy Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal (7 campaigns), National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, among other honors. He entered the service in 1967, stationed on the USS Canberra (CA-70). In 1977 he transitioned to the Navy Reserve where he continued his service another 15 years until retirement.
Following his service, Peter built a successful career as an engineer for General Dynamics, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin. He then earned a Juris Doctorate from National University (Class of 1994) and practiced as an attorney for 25 years focusing on construction defects and civil contracts. Known for his quick wit along with a passion for car racing and models of all kinds, Pete will be remembered for his charm and storytelling.
He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Allen. He is survived by his wife, Billie Jean (Darlington) Glor and her children Sean Vickers and Courtney (Gary) Ware; former wife Sharon Smith and their children Steven (Kelly) Glor, Jason (Jennie) Glor, and Jennifer (Anthony) Edelstein; and grandchildren Trevor and Brittney Glor, Aurelia Edelstein, Ryan Glor, and Alistair Edelstein, and Billie's grandchildren Garrett and Cameron Ware. He is also survived by siblings Bernice (Chris) Pagliaro, Barbara Martin, Ellen (Richard) Dunston, and Gene Glor; several dear friends; and a number of unfinished airplane & boat models and untold stories.
Burial with full military honors at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA, date and time TBD. Commander Glor USN (Ret.), honorably served 25 years (active and Reserve) in Vietnam and Korea, earning the Navy Commendation Medal and Combat Action Ribbon.
