Peter Lumsden MacLaurin

1939 - 2025

With heavy hearts, the family of Peter Lumsden MacLaurin shares his peaceful passing on November 22, 2025, after a short illness and a second fall. Born in Montreal on September 2, 1939, Peter lived a life filled with friendship, learning, and a gregarious spirit that made everyone feel welcome.
Peter had a gift for bringing people together. His house was often full—of friends, laughter, long rants and the occasional animal who wandered in and stayed. He believed in kindness, education, and helping others, and he offered his time and guidance to anyone who needed it.
For 49 years, Peter shared his life with his beloved wife, Charlotte Irene Stevens, building a warm and welcoming home together. He was a devoted father to Jennifer MacLaurin Smith (Derek Smith), Martha MacLaurin Wood (Anthony Wood), and Yen Jung Chen (aka Tim), and a proud grandfather to Dylan Smith, Gabrielle Wood, Charlotte Smith, Cooper Wood, and Isabelle Smith, who brought him endless joy.
He will also be deeply missed by his younger brother, Robin Lumsden MacLaurin, along with extended family, friends, former students and all those whose lives were brightened by his generosity and sense of fun.
Peter’s legacy is one of community service, curiosity, and the simple belief that there is always room for one more—one more friend, one more scotch, one more project, one more story.
He left this world as he lived in it: surrounded by love and on his own terms.
