It is with profound love and heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Peter “Pete” Matthews, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend. Pete passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, in Palm Harbor, Florida.
Born on July 25, 1940, Pete dedicated 28 years of his career to Niagara Mohawk, working as a claims adjuster. After retiring, he and his wife Patricia moved to Palm Harbor, FL. Pete continued doing what he loved - working at Landsbrook Golf Course and spending time as an avid golfer. He also enjoyed bowling and playing softball for many years, forming meaningful friendships along the way.
Pete is survived by his daughter, Terry Christiansen (Dave); his son, Mike Matthews (Allison); his six grandchildren, Brian Morenus (Veronica), Bill Morenus (Lidia), Lexi Morenus Razzano (Rick), Ryan Matthews, Morgan Childs (Mark), and Dean Matthews; and his great-granddaughter, Valerie Childs. Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia.
Pete had a remarkable gift for connecting with people and left a lasting impact throughout his life. Above all else, Pete was devoted to his family. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him, and he took great pride in being present in their lives and supporting them in every way he could. Even in his final days, Pete’s quick wit and vibrant personality never left him. He will be remembered for his humor, kindness and the joy he brought to those around him. Pete will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Please join us on Tuesday, April 14 at Tuscarora Golf Club from 12:00 - 3:00 to share memories of Pete with friends and family.
