Peter D. Ternes, 87, of Elyria, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. He was born to Roy and Dorothy (Gerhart) Ternes on April 27, 1938. He is the youngest of 5 brothers, all growing up and working on their family farm in Elyria, where he became a lifelong resident. He then joined Military service in 1957. He met his loving wife, Lorrie, married in June 1967. He was a true builder, carpenter and innovator. In 1974, Pete told Lorrie he bought a barn and he was going to turn that barn into the family home. He certainly did and made it a work of art, which has remained his home. Many remember him from his lifetime work as a truck and ambulance salesman before he retired.
Pete has been active his entire life. He went to Midview Schools where he was an excellent basketball athlete. He enjoyed racing High Performance Go Karts. He loved boating, and the Lake Erie Islands. Traveling on many vacations with his family throughout the Country. He never declined an opportunity to play cornhole. In his league where they named him "Sneaky Pete", playing with friends & family, and at every gathering, he won practically every one of his games and just chuckled. He had a love for family and friends, always joking and making them laugh. His telltale grin was like no other. His character is unforgettable, always a jokester, playing pranks. He would be there to lend a helping hand to anyone.
Pete was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Loretta T. (nee Kuczmarski). He is survived by his son Matthew and daughter Andrea (Jerry). He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, devotion and an unforgettable spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who loved him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19 from 3-7 pm at Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 20 at 11 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 708 Erie St., Grafton. Expressions of sympathy may be shared online at: www.laubenthalmercado.com
