In Loving Memory of Philip Alvarez
December 31, 1957 – October 8, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Philip "Lip" Alvarez, who died unexpectedly on October 8, 2025, at the age of 67, in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Born on December 31, 1957, in Bisbee, Arizona, Phil was a 1976 graduate of Bisbee High School. He went on to study architecture at Eastern Arizona Junior College in Thatcher, Arizona. In 1998, Phil and his family moved to California, where he continued his career and was most recently employed as a Circuit Board Design Engineer at EXTRON. He returned to Arizona in 2023.

Phil was deeply loved by many. A true sports enthusiast, he enjoyed playing and watching a wide variety of sports throughout his life. In high school, he wrestled and played football, and his passion for baseball spanned from peewee league through his college years. Later in life, golf became a favorite pastime — he served as President of his California golf league for two years.

Phil was a guy that always lit up room the second he entered. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, infectious humor, unforgettable pranks, and his unwavering devotion to the ASU Sun Devils. He was an enthusiastic member of the Crafty Devils tailgating group. His roots in Bisbee were strong, and many of his lifelong friendships were formed during those early years growing up there. Lip will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents Tony and Emma Alvarez. Phil is survived by his sons Andrew(Cassidy) and their daughter Bentley, Alex(Bri) and their children Nova, Hudson and Wriggly, his brother Tony Jr.(Karen), sisters Alma Newberry and Barbara, nephews Manny, Chad and Aaron, and cherished Elizabeth.

A Celebration of Life will be held on 11/22/2025 at 924 E Baylor Ln, Gilbert, AZ 85296.
