Philip Hernán Cabrera, born on 09 March 1962 in Washington, D.C., passed away on 19 February 2026 in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Philip attended Bethesda - Chevy Chase High School, graduating with the Class of 1981. Following a brief period of service in the military, he built a career at the Defense Mapping Agency (later the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency), where he contributed to its imaging processes and from which he ultimately retired. More recently, he supported the operations of Lulu Florist for over a decade.

Philip was an accomplished guitarist who loved jamming with friends. In addition to music, he cultivated a wide range of interests, including photography and film production, online gaming, renaissance festivals, and travel (including to his father's homeland in Bolivia) - and the devoted companionship of his cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents, José Hernán Cabrera Terán and Katherine Smith Cabrera, originally of Tennessee, and by his sister Sylvia Elvira Cabrera (1941-2021). Philip is beloved and survived by his cousins and extended family. He is also remembered by long-time friends, colleagues and companions.

A joint Requiem Mass honoring Philip and his sister Sylvia will be celebrated on Saturday, 07 March at 2 p.m., at Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church, 6902 River Road, Bethesda, Maryland 20817. A Reception will follow at the Cabrera house (address and instructions shall be provided at the Mass). A joint Interment Service for Philip and Sylvia will take place on Monday, 09 March at 10 a.m., at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906, where their parents are buried. Those wishing to join the funeral procession should gather inside the cemetery by 9:45 a.m. on St. Steven Avenue near the intersection with St. Peter Avenue, close to the cemetery entrance and office.

For planning purposes, kindly email [email protected] and indicate which events you intend to attend (especially in connection with the reception).
