Phillip (Phil) Lee Welch, 70, of West Salem, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, following a brief illness. Born February 16, 1956, Phil lived a full and vibrant life, surrounded by family and friends who loved him deeply.
On April 11, 1997, Phil married the love of his life, Charmaine Welch, and together they built a welcoming home filled with warmth, laughter, and fun. Phil was a proud and loving father to his son, Aaron (Brenda) Welch, and his daughter, Leann. He was also a cherished stepfather to Lisa and Jonathon (Heather) Trowbridge and Russell (Jordan) Roper.
Phil was a devoted grandfather who took great pride in each of his grandchildren. He is lovingly remembered by Anthony, Alivia, and AJ Welch; BrayLynn Walker; Christian and Mykayla Trowbridge; Charlotte McCoy; Kylee Nakoff, Kye, Kyla, and Keasin Roper, and 2 great-grandsons, as well as the late Keagan, who held a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his siblings, Karen (Jeff) Harkins and David (Lois) Welch. Phil is also remembered fondly by his niece, Kat (Matt) West, and their children, McKenzie, Allison, Sophia, and Wyatt, along with many other extended family members and dear friends. Phil dedicated 40 years to the trucking industry, traveling millions of miles with skill, pride, and a strong sense of responsibility. He worked for RedCap Transport and was known for his reliability and strong work ethic. Phil retired in July 2022, looking forward to more time with Charmaine and the family he cherished.
Phil found his greatest joy in time spent with the people he loved. Sundays often meant football—especially watching games with his son Aaron, his grandchildren, and friends—creating a tradition filled with laughter, good conversation, and lasting memories. He also enjoyed bowling with friends and could often be found playing cards or golfing in his free time.
Known for his ability to bring people together, Phil hosted many memorable New Year’s Eve gatherings over the years for his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family—celebrations that became precious traditions. A dedicated family man through and through, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on his grandchildren at their sporting events, always showing up with pride and encouragement, along with attending several grandparents’ day events throughout the years.
Phil also cherished camping trips and vacations shared with Charmaine and their family—moments marked by togetherness, adventure, and love. His kindness, steady presence, and appreciation for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Phil’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11, 2026 at Phil and Charmaine’s home, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor Phil’s life.
Phil definitely lived up to his namesake filling everyone’s life with love, joy, and laughter. May Phil’s memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
