Phyllis P. McPheeters, February 25th, 1928 - March 27, 2026
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Phyllis McPheeters in the early hours of March 27, 2026. She had a life filled with love and adventure, seeing many changes over the course of her long life. She recently celebrated her 98th birthday with family and friends whose spirits were raised by her upbeat attitude and happy demeanor. Born and raised in Long Beach, CA, to Philip S. Prood and Helen Cavanna (Prood), she spent most of her life in California. Married for 57 years to husband Jerry, they brought up their boys in Mountain Home Village, CA, enjoying the pleasures of a small community. They later spent time moving around the state and travelling for work around the country.
After Jerry’s passing, she thrived in Yucca Valley, CA, experiencing life on her own for the first time. She was glad to be a part of her grandchildren’s lives, that love returned by many visits and phone calls in their adulthood. She created a close-knit community of family and friends; her warmth radiated into her relationships. She laughed readily and enjoyed hearing other people's stories.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Michelle McPheeters, their children Adam and McKinley; her son and son-in-law Kevin McPheeters and Martin Lewis, her niece Vicki Igleheart, and many cousins. She was a joyous soul and will be missed.
The diagnosis of Macular Degeneration late in her life caused a loss in eyesight. She adapted to late-onset Alzheimer's as needed, though not always willingly. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Braille Institute, www.brailleinstitute.org or Alzheimer's Association, https://www.alz.org/ or your favorite charity.
