Pola Auerbach Rosen, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, and publisher, passed away on December 23, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 83, after a courageous battle with a long illness. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pola spent most of her life in New York City, where she built her life's work and lasting community.
Pola was a lifelong champion of education and had a passion for music and the arts. She attended New York City's Music and Art High School, earned her undergraduate degree from Barnard College, and completed her Doctor of Education degree at Columbia University's Teachers College. Her deep belief in the power of education guided her professional path and her values.
For many years, Pola owned and published Education Update, a newspaper dedicated to educational issues and dialogue. Through her work as a publisher and writer, she brought together educators, policymakers, and community voices, advocating tirelessly for learning, equity, and opportunity.
Pola is survived by her loving husband, Herman; her sister, Lucy; her children, Adam (Dolly), Rob (Sherri), and Heather (Brett); her grandchildren, John, Emily (Kyle), Benjamin, and Anna; and her great-grandchildren, Maddie and Sam, who brought her great joy.
Beyond her accomplishments, Pola will be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and close friends. She leaves behind a legacy of advocacy, integrity, and love that will continue to resonate through the many lives she touched.
