The family of Quinto Simone sadly announces his passing on Friday August 29, 2025 at Hamilton General Hospital (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) at the age of 96. He passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Quinto is survived by his wife of 63 years, Giovanna (nee Conte), his devoted children Maria, Carla and Enrico (Carmela), his adoring grandchildren Giorgia (Eric), Eric, Sofia, Helena, Bianca and Chiara, and his brother Modesto (Titina). Quinto also leaves behind his cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends in Canada, the U.S. and Italy.
Quinto is predeceased by his parents Berardino Simone and Maria Santarelli, his brothers Giambattista, Antonio, Domenico and Nello, and his sister Anna.
Born in his beloved village of Secinaro, L'Aquila, Italy on October 20, 1928, Quinto lived a life of integrity, humility and hard work. At 24 years of age, Quinto set sail from Napoli and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Having traveled via train to Southern Ontario, he lived in Niagara Falls until he moved to Hamilton where he was employed with Stelco for 35 years.
In 1972, Quinto and his family moved to a beautiful 10-acre vineyard, orchard and vegetable farm below the escarpment in Fruitland. An avid farmer, he took great pleasure in working the land, preserving the harvest, and making his own wine. Quinto had a special talent for grafting fruit trees.
Quinto was a joyful and humble family man known for his love of nature, land and living sustainably. His passion for history, politics and storytelling was matched only by his sense of humour and wit. He enjoyed bringing laughter and joy to those around him. Quinto especially cherished conversations with his grandchildren, always listening to and encouraging their dreams. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he supported his family’s growth, inspiring them to pursue success in both their professional and personal lives through education, dedication and hard work.
Quinto is deeply loved and missed. His presence will forever be felt in the hearts of those who cherish him.
We extend our gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Hamilton General Hospital and especially to his daily caregivers Marianne, Marie, Evelyn and Timmie who lovingly cared for Quinto like family.
In Quinto’s memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
