Randolph Timothy Barringer, known to many as "Randy," was born on August 29, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois, to Bessie Lee Barringer. Randy departed this life on January 21, 2026 at the age of 60, in Lancaster, California, and in the presence of his eldest daughter, Leccera Barringer. At six years old, Randy relocated to Los Angeles, California with his mother, Bessie, and his siblings. He was the third eldest of seven children, one brother and five sisters. Randy was a proud father, a dear friend, as well as a much-loved member of his family.
In 1983, Randy graduated from Fairfax High School, where he attended alongside his younger brother, Zachary Barringer. During his childhood, Randy enjoyed playing baseball and often shared stories of being talented enough to play professionally. He also loved fishing and made it a point to share that passion with his children, nurturing life long memories. Known for cultivating connection, Randy had a deep love for food and fellowship. Randy enjoyed preparing smoked salmon and steak, but he was famously known for his crawfish boils, so bold and flavorful they'd have your nose running.
At the age of 28, Randy discovered his calling in music and began DJ'ing. He went on to work with some of the biggest names in hip hop during his early years and was known professionally as "DJ Ran". Music was not just a passion, it was a way of life. Randy had a record collection that was out of this world. He took great pride in his vinyls and dedicated much of his life to finding rare royalties, carefully curating records that carried history, culture, and soul. His transitions were smooth and intentional, and often rooted in the reggae genre. When immersed in reggae, Randy proudly went by "Selecta DJ Ran" honoring the culture and sound he loved so deeply. Randy often created personal mixes, copying them onto CDs and sharing them with those closest to him. Musically gifted, Randy could hear nearly any song and immediately name the artist, determine whether it was original or remastered, and seamlessly know the perfect song to mix with it. Musical trivia was rarely won by anyone else whenever Randy was in the room.
Beyond his musical gifts, Randy was known for his humor, quick wit, and sharp comebacks, often catching people off guard with timing so perfect it would leave the room in laughter. His laughter was contagious, his jokes were effortless, and his ability to set the tone in any room was one of his greatest gifts.
Randy was preceded in death by his grandparents, great-grandparents, great-aunt, his beloved mother Bessie L. Barringer; and his sister, Bernadine Barringer.
Randy leaves to cherish his memory his fiancée, Elizaida; his daughters Leccera, Felicie, Jasmine, and Arianna; his son Bijon; his siblings Elaine, Zondreia, Zachary, Sophia, and Yolanda; along with a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Randy's life was a record well spun. Layered with rhythm, love, and unforgettable moments. His presence brought people together, and his sound will continue to echo through the hearts of all who knew him. Though the record may have stopped, his melody will never fade.
