Ray Smith

Ray Thompson Smith, 76, passed away in Key West, Florida, on March 14, 2026.

Ray was born on July 30, 1949. A graduate of Thayer Academy and Tufts University, Ray went on to build a successful career in sales with Johnson & Johnson and Unilever, earning numerous awards and accolades in recognition of his dedication and talent.

Ray had a lifelong love of sports. Whether in the stands or on the field, he rarely missed an opportunity to be a part of the game. He played football, basketball and softball in his younger years, and continued his passion for softball throughout most of his life as both a player and a coach. He found great joy in the camaraderie, competition, and connection that sports brought to his life.

Above all, Ray was a man who opened his arms wide to those around him, warmly welcoming everyone as family and friends into his life. He did not define family by blood, but rather by the bonds he built. He was a beloved son, grandson, brother, father, and friend, but his favorite role was "Grandpa Ray." He leaves behind an extensive network of biological and chosen family, including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each touched by his generosity and love.

Ray's presence will be missed, and his impact will not be forgotten.

A graveside service will be held in Halifax, MA. Details will be shared when available.
