Raymond Albert Hebert, Jr., beloved husband, passed away in Colleyville, TX on March 29, 2026. He was a native of Fort Worth, born to Raymond Albert Hebert, Sr. and Alberta Besch Hebert on December 28, 1947. He liked to say that he was a Christmas present for his mother and a last-minute tax deduction for his CPA dad.
Ray was proud to have played catcher on the 1960 Fort Worth Little League team that went to the Little League World Series. He graduated from Nolan Catholic High School. After high school, Ray went on to attend the University of Notre Dame. There he continued his baseball career and developed a lifelong love for the Fighting Irish. After watching every football game, he would sing the alma mater. He earned two bachelor's degrees, majoring in electrical engineering and minoring in philosophy. That was followed by a master's degree in electrical engineering. His career was spent in computers and IT.
Ray was a man of deep and abiding faith, which is the thing that he would have most wanted to pass on. He was also a philosopher who could find the deeper truths and connections in life and could be relied on to contribute keen observations and wit to any situation. An avid baseball fan he loved to point out the ways that the game of baseball reflected life and taught life lessons. Having an innate love of learning, Ray adopted the title of Richard Feynman's book "The Pleasure of Finding Things Out" as his motto.
Ray had a deep love for his family, always celebrating each milestone and accomplishment. He also enthusiastically embraced loved ones' interests as well as new spouses and children. He welcomed each one warmly and was eager to get to know them. He will be remembered for his tome-like texts and generosity. It was also well known that he did not suffer fools gladly and had little tolerance for unkindness or deception.
Ray is survived by Carol, his beloved wife of 31 years; brothers Joseph Hebert (Peggy) of Lafayette, LA, and Michael Hebert (Kathy) of Colleyville, TX.; nephews Patrick (Maidi), Stephen (Lariza), Chris (Dana), David (Abigail), and Matt; niece Meg (Josh), and Virginia; numerous great nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law Martha King of Abilene, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother Christopher.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 on Monday, April 20, 2026 in Grace Chapel at White's Chapel Methodist in Southlake, TX with a reception to follow at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Disability Resources Inc. of Abilene, TX (driabilene.org) or Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org).
