The best thing about Ray Schmier Sr. is the beautiful family he and his wife Alice Schmier leave behind. Alice was the love of Ray's life and together they raised three sons, Raymond Jr., Gregory, and Timothy. All three sons have or have had successful careers and are living their lives with integrity and loyalty. Gregory's son Zachary enhanced the beauty of their family, as did Emily, Tim's stepdaughter, and Laura, Tim's wife.
Ray grew up in La Salle, Colorado on a farm, but left to join the Army, where he was a tank mechanic. This is also when he developed a keen interest in electronics and knew it was his calling. It was soon after he left military service that he met the beautiful and charismatic Alice. He knew she would be his one and only love as soon as he saw her. She brought out the best in him.
As their family grew, Ray took on more and more challenging positions in his role as a Quality Control Specialist at Lockheed Martin. Alice also worked at Lockheed Martin, so the couple often commuted together. Ray worked there for more than 40 years before retiring at age 70.
Raymond Jr. followed in his father's footsteps and worked at Lockheed Martin for more than 20 years and is now retired. Timothy joined the Marines and continued the family tradition of serving their country, then worked as an Infrastructure specialist for more than 25 years. He now runs his own Handyman Service. Gregory works for Denver Water where he has taken on increasing responsibility over the past decade. These three sons are an incredible tribute to their family and embody the best of Ray and Alice.
After Ray retired, he and Alice traveled - Mexico, Yellowstone, and many other places - often with Alice's brother and his wife; they were quite the team. Ray and Alice also gardened, and rescued cats and gave them a loving home.
Ray's sons were very devoted to their parents, all of them helped their mom and dad in their golden years with daily tasks, doctor visits, business dealings, gardening, and so much more. When Alice became ill, they, Greg's companion Christine, and Laura took care of Alice, and were by her side as she endured cancer treatments and ultimately hospice at home. They all cared for Ray after Alice passed away, helping Ray with, well, everything, as well as taking him on adventures to breweries with their dogs, live music and even pedicures. Ray's sense of humor, devotion to and connection with animals will be remembered fondly.
This beautiful and devoted family's time with Ray ended five years before his death, as his life was suddenly changed by someone outside of the family, and all of Ray's family and friends, except his grandson Zachary, were discarded and blocked from his life.
The family remembers the Ray they knew, and mourns for him.
