Raymond Duane Sleater, 96, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Murray, Utah. Born on July 21, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Horace and Francis Sleater, Duane lived a long and fulfilling life marked by dedication to his family, career, and passions.
Duane graduated from West High School where he excelled at baseball and basketball. He went on to build a successful career with Mountain Bell, where he worked diligently until retiring at the age of 60. His professional life was complemented by his service to his country; he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
A man of many interests, Duane found joy in hunting, fishing, bowling, and golf. He shared these hobbies with family and friends, creating cherished memories along the way. For nearly 60 years, Duane and his beloved wife Claudia were members of the Copper Golf Club. The golf course became a second home for them as they spent countless days enjoying the game they loved and the camaraderie of fellow members. Even into his mid-90s, Duane continued to play golf with remarkable skill and consistency—always "down the middle and two putt."
Duane's kindness and honesty left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He was a devoted husband to Claudia and a loving father to their children: daughter Shawn (Kelly) and sons Lance (Suzanne) and Jason. His legacy extends through his six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents Horace and Francis Sleater as well as his sister Joyce Sleater.
Duane's life was a testament to integrity, love for family, and a passion for living fully. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. Duane is now playing golf with his golf buddies, still haggling over strokes and finally taking their money ... again.
