Rebecca Sue Gilbert

Rebecca "Beckie" Sue (Durham) Gilbert, 77 of Newton passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends April 2, 2026 at NMC Health after a lengthy health battle.
Beckie was born August 18, 1948 in Ashland, Ks to Leland and Louise Durham. She graduated from Mullinville High School May 1966.
Beckie met her husband Clark Gilbert while attending cosmetology school at Dodge City Community College. On April 4, 1970 they were married in Mullinville. In 1978 their one and only child, Brittney Shay was born. Beckie and Clark were married just shy of 47 years before his passing in 2017.
During Beckie's life she worked as a Cosmetologist, Bank teller, spent many years as a New Patient Representative at Hertzler Clinic in Halstead, and then as a Receptionist at Axtell Clinic in Newton.
Her smile could light up a room and she never met a stranger, making everyone feel welcome.
Summers years ago were the best when she would take her granddaughters over to the pool and then have the most creative snacks after (Like peanut butter and syrup). All of Beckie's little quirks are what made her so special to everyone around her. Beckie's wit was contagious even in her last few days, she still brought smiles to everyone's faces. She always took pride in decorating, gardening, and cooking, but nothing could be more important to her than spending time with her family (especially her great grandbabies) Being a loving and devoted Mother, Grandma, and GiGi is what helped give her strength.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Clark and parents Leland and Louise Durham.
Beckie is survived by her daughter, Brittney Helm (Chane) of Canton, Granddaughters Savannah Wild (Ben), Joscelyn Helm (Courtney), Aspen Pryor (Jonathon), and Daytona Helm.
Beloved great grandchildren Canton, Pryor, and Thorsen. Sister, Debbie Sims (Jim) of Andover.
Nephews: Lucas (Holly), Matt (Kellie), and Jake (Natalie) and 7 great nieces and nephews. Her close friends Linda and Connie and her doggy companion, Neely.
A celebration on life will be held June 13th, 2026 from 2-4pm @ Station 50 in Newton, Ks.
In remembrance of Beckie's life and love, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Caring Hands Humane Society, Newton Ks.
