Rebecca Jo "Becca" Johnston (Schutte), age 76, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Westerville, Ohio. Born on March 11, 1950, in Palestine, Illinois, Rebecca lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and a deep love for her family and friends.
Rebecca graduated from Palestine High School in 1968 and went on to pursue higher education with great determination. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Services and Human Resources from Franklin University and furthered her studies in Human Development, Family Studies, and Diversity Studies at The Ohio State University. Her academic achievements reflected her passion for understanding and helping others.
Throughout her career, Rebecca held various impactful roles that showcased her expertise and commitment to service. She worked as a Technical and Operations Trainer and Corporate Client Liaison for Wachovia Securities. Later, she served as a Trainer, Job Developer, and Workforce Developer for Greenleaf Job Training Services. Rebecca also contributed as a Customer Care Representative for HealthSCOPE Benefits and as a Technical Specialist for Molly Marie Hough and DOME Financial Services, Ltd. In each role, she brought professionalism, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to excellence.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alan Geoffrey Johnston; her cherished son, Geoffrey Alan; and her parents, Charles W. Schutte and Virginia Meeker Schutte of Robinson, Illinois (formerly of Palestine). She is survived by her brother Jeff (Sally)Schutte; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as great-nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Known affectionately as Becky or Becca to those who knew her best, she was celebrated for her friendly nature that turned strangers into friends. Her warm smile could light up any room, while her joyful spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Rebecca had a profound love for family gatherings and treasured the time spent with loved ones. A devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, she found immense joy in cheering on her favorite team. She was also unwaveringly devoted to her amazing friends connected through the Westerville Community United Church of Christ. The care & love selflessly & consistently given to her, enriched her life beyond measure.
Rebecca’s absence is deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of kindness, warmth, and love will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
May Rebecca Jo Johnston’s memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing while celebrating the beautiful life she lived. A Celebration of Life honoring Rebecca’s memory will be held later in the Spring at the Westerville Community United Church of Christ.
