Celebrating the Radiant Legacy of Reuben Vanard Hudson

"The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering." – Bruce Lee

If Bruce Lee’s words hold the secret to living forever, then Reuben Vanard Hudson’s legacy is truly immortal. Reuben didn't just exist in this world; he painted it with experienced strokes of courage, and an infinite flow of infectious energy. Armed with a bright smile and a timeless style, his 64 years were those of a brave man who consistently beat the odds.

On February 24, 2026, surrounded by a comforting tide of love from his family, Reuben's vibrant spirit moved onward, leaving behind a life truly worth celebrating.

A visionary who viewed the world through a lens of quiet wonder, Reuben possessed the rare gift of making anywhere feel like home. Born on March 16, 1961, to Lucious and Shirley Hudson in Havana, Florida, his journey wove an expansive map. He planted deep roots in Springfield, Massachusetts, and in Birmingham, Alabama, where he found a lifelong best friend of over forty years, Herb Thornton (Michelle). He also spent time in Columbus, Ohio and eventually, the steady pull of family brought him to Lawrenceville, Georgia, to be closer to his mother and brothers.

Reuben was, by nature and by trade, a builder. A fast-thinking problem solver, he built his construction business from the ground up, steering it through the high-pressure storms of sprawling, sensitive projects across multiple territories.

Some of his most cherished builds were personal: constructing a Pickleball court featuring an office named the “Hudson Hideaway,” proudly painting the vintage staircase in his eldest daughter’s first home, rushing over to quietly fix his youngest daughter’s running toilet and countless projects for friends and family.

The most impressive build was within himself. Achieving over 32 years of recovery, Reuben transformed his own healing into a lighthouse for others. He centered his life on helping people reach the best versions of themselves, offering hope to those who were seeking it, offering guidance to those who were lost, and most importantly offering the natural remedy of his contagious laughter to anyone, anytime.

He lived by a simple, golden principle: treating others exactly as he wished to be treated. This deep commitment to brotherhood led him to join St. Johns Lodge in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, as a Free and Accepted Mason.

A man who believed in the harmony of a strong mind and a disciplined body, he achieved a high rank in the martial art of Kajukenbo. He later returned to the dojo to train alongside his son, flawlessly merging the art of fighting with the gentle devotion of fatherhood.

He also held the title of "Chief Dogwalker" for his family dog, Blaze, and the same for his grand-dog, Kusama, whenever he would visit Boston.

Reuben possessed a magnetic ability to casually command any room he walked into. He was exactly the kind of person you hoped would drift into your orbit, and those who knew him are fortunate to have shared the same time and space. The true center of his gravity was his family. He was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife, Denise Hudson, and an exceptional father to the children who were the beating heart of his world: Andréa Hudson (Alisa), Cameron Hudson (Monique), and Rhylee Hudson.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Hudson; his aunt, Lueirtha Patterson; his uncles, Leonard Swatzie and Anthony Swatzie, his siblings, Noah Hudson (Valerie), Ronnie Jackson, Jeffrey Hudson, Marcus Hudson (Aimee), Reggie Hudson (Nicole), Paul Hudson (Teresa), and Diane “Deanie” Johnson; his step-mother, Willa Hudson, and her children, Dawana Twiggs, Sonia Twiggs, Sebastian Carrillo, Joe Carrillo, and Shane Green. A vast constellation of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will forever count him as their favorite. Reuben now joins his father, Lucious; his brother, Larry; and his step-sister, Leatrice Twiggs, in our hearts, memories and dreams, for all of eternity.

If you are reading this, know that you are part of the beautiful tapestry of his well-lived life. The Hudson family hopes you find deep peace in knowing you impacted Reuben in ways he admired and appreciated.

Now, when the world feels as though it has stopped turning in his absence, the greatest tribute we can offer is to follow his most consistent mantra…

"Keep it Moving."

We'll be celebrating Reuben in both Lawrenceville, GA and Springfield, MA. More details to follow.
