Dr. Ricardo Izquierdo passed away into God’s hands on January 13th, 2026. Ric was born in Havana, Cuba on September 23rd, 1955, to Dr. Ricardo Jorge Izquierdo Serra and Mercedes Sotelo Florido de Izquierdo.

He is survived by his loving wife Pamela W. Izquierdo – they married on June 21st, 1980. Ric was a devoted father to Marisa I. Bernstein (Chad), Amanda W. Izquierdo and Natalia I. Hamilton (Tom) as well as the grandfather to Aiden, Blake and Parker. He is also survived by siblings Mercedes Logan (Stanley) and Ignacio Izquierdo (Brenda) plus numerous nephews and nieces (and greats).

Upon leaving Cuba with his family on June 14th, 1961, Ric lived in Erie, Pennsylvania, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Cleveland, Ohio and Charleston, West Virginia while his father finalized his surgical residency. Ric and the Izquierdo family settled in Tuscola, Illinois in the summer of 1967. He loved Tuscola, developed many meaningful friendships and is a proud graduate of Tuscola Community High School class of 1973.

Ric was a gifted plastic surgeon who knew from an early age that the pursuit of medicine would be his chosen profession. After completing his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University in 1977, he received his doctorate from Stritch School of Medicine in 1980. He continued at Loyola earning his General Surgery and Plastic Surgery board credentials. Later, he went to Tulane University School of Medicine, earning his Microvascular surgical board credentials. He returned to Loyola as an associate professor. His love of teaching residents remained one of the highlights of his career. He later went on to have a successful private plastic surgery practice in Hinsdale and Oak Brook, Illinois.

Ric was a consummate professional, put his family above all else and was committed to helping others. He served on the Wellness House Board in Hinsdale for several years. He lived for over 50 years in the Chicago area, most of which were in Clarendon Hills. Ric valued his lifelong friends and his brothers from Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity as he saw the goodness in all people. His creativity, love of music, especially the Grateful Dead and the arts were paramount.

Funeral services will be private. A celebration of life will be held in early summer.
