Richard D. Barrett, 67, of South Berwick, ME, passed away on April 12, 2026. Born on July 25, 1959, Richard graduated from Portsmouth High School and later attended Plymouth State College, enriching his education and paving the way for his future endeavors.
Known affectionately to friends and family as Rick, he was a beacon of kindness and warmth. His infectious smile and laughter brought joy to all who knew him. Rick was an avid storyteller, often telling listeners tales of his outdoor adventures. A passionate outdoorsman, he cherished the times he could go deer hunting or fishing, activities that brought him immense happiness.
Rick's love for his family was profound. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra A. Barrett; his sons, Kyle Barrett and his husband Ryan, and Keith Barrett; and his brother, Kenneth Barrett and his wife Trish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Shirley Barrett; his sister, Sheryl Barrett; and his nephew, Michael Barrett.
In his leisure time, Rick was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, always eager to explore the woods or set sail in search of stripers. He enjoyed antiquing with his wife and was a joyful presence at family gatherings. Every May, Rick took great pleasure in planting and tending to his vegetable garden, a testament to his love for nature and the outdoors.
The community will gather to honor and remember Rick's life at Farrell's Funeral Home in Portsmouth, NH. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 4-7 pm, followed by the burial on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 11 am in the South Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will subsequently be held at the Elk's Club 282 Durham Road, Dover, NH, from 12 pm to 3 pm.
Rick's life was a portrait of joy, love, and adventure, touching the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. His legacy of warmth and kindness will be cherished and remembered by his loved ones and the community.
