Richard Curran passed away Sunday evening November 16, 2025 at his home on Cape Cod after a brief battle with cancer, one day shy of his 73rd birthday. Born in Boston and raised in Somerville, he was the youngest of five siblings. Rich always had a love for sports, especially baseball. He won the Little League City Championship at age 12 and later played as captain at St. Mary's High School in Cambridge where he started a life long commitment of strong faith. He was also captain of the football team and graduated as class president in 1970. He then attended Mass Bay Community College where he met the love of his life, the late Joan Curran. They were later married and built a home together on the west side of Woburn where they raised two sons. Richard continued his education at Suffolk University, and earned his MBA at Bentley University in Accounting. He worked for 30 years as an International Tax Accountant at Analog Devices.

Rich loved spending time with his two sons coaching many Little League baseball teams and attending their sporting events. In his free time, he enjoyed dinners in the North End and never could resist a good Lobster Tail dessert. He also enjoyed running and joined a hiking group where he trekked as far as the Grand Canyon. After rooting on his wife Joan through many marathon runs, Rich decided to tackle the Boston Marathon himself and completed the 26.2 miles at the age of 58 in 2011. He loved listening to Motown music, especially the Temptations and Smoky Robinson, and enjoyed doing puzzles.

Richard became a grandfather, affectionately known as Papa, in 2007 and enjoyed spending time with all three of his granddaughters - Cloe Curran of Woburn and Brooke and Brielle Curran of Burlington. The girls were his greatest joy.

Richard is survived by two sons, Michael Curran and his wife Lori Curran of Burlington and Robert Curran and his wife Claudia Curran of Woburn. The loving brother of the late MaryLou Flaherty, the late PFC Joseph Curran USMC, Theresa Connelly of Somerville, and Rita Barry of Lynn. Loving son of Mary Bruno Curran and Joseph Curran, and survived by many other relatives and friends.

A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 11am at Saint John the Evangelist, 178 Humphrey Street, Swampscott, MA 01907. The service will be performed by Father John McLaughlin. There will be a collation afterward, and those details will be announced at the church.
