Richard Carlyle Fountain Sr. passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, at the age of 77, in South Jordan, Utah, surrounded by his loving daughters.
Born on August 12, 1947 in Manhattan, New York, Richard was the son of David Carlyle Fountain, a design engineer from Greenville, NC, and Marjorie Mai (Follett) Fountain, a devoted homemaker from Great Barrington, MA. Raised on Long Island, NY, Richard remained close to his roots throughout his life, raising his own family there. He was known for his hardworking nature, dedication to his craft, and a larger-than-life presence. He was the kind of man who made an entrance and left an impression.
Richard spent much of his career in the construction industry, where he built homes with skill and pride. A natural entrepreneur, he also ran several small businesses and relished the challenge of new ventures.
Richard loved being out on the water. From boating to Kismet, Fire Island, to crabbing, clamming, or fishing, he was a real water enthusiast. When he wasn't out on the water, he could be found hitting up the blackjack tables in Atlantic City, firing up his Weber barbecue to cook for family and friends or enjoying late-night ice cream runs with his daughters and grandchildren. Spending time with family held a very special place in his heart. He treasured his visits to Ft. Myers, Florida, where he spent time with his parents during the winter months. He enjoyed his Ford trucks, his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and was a die-hard New York Yankees fan.
In 2008, Richard relocated to Homosassa, Florida, where he started a successful landscaping business and enjoyed a quieter life with his cherished cat, Mister Mister. In 2022, he made the move to Utah to be closer to family.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Patricia "Patty" Mai Fountain of Holly Hill, Florida, and his four daughters—Catherine Kaira Robertson (John) of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Bridgit Mary Doyle (William) of Eagle Mountain, Utah; Nicole Danielle Alguire (Michael) of Draper, Utah; and Michelle Bree Mason (Christopher) of Islip, New York. Richard was also blessed with 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Though he is no longer with us, Richard's legacy of love, determination, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
A portion of Richard's ashes will join his ancestors in Leggett, North Carolina, at the William and Mary Hart Church Cemetery, while another portion will be scattered at a cherished family spot on Long Island.
