Richard "Dick" Edward Halsey, a dedicated educator and world traveler, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, in Consejo Shores, Belize. He was 77 years old.

Born on October 29, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, Dick’s life was defined by a passion for writing, language and a curiosity about the world. He spent many years as a beloved Junior High English teacher in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. Known for his dry sense of humor and sharp wit, he didn’t just teach writing & literature; he earned the lifelong respect and admiration of his students and colleagues alike.

Dick’s adventurous spirit led him to live a life without borders. His teaching and travels took him to Barcelona, Spain, and Istanbul, Turkey, and Boise, ID before he finally settled in the tranquil community of Consejo Shores, Belize. Wherever he lived, Dick immersed himself in service, notably as a dedicated member of the Rotary Club.

A faithful follower of Christ, Dick remained a devoted member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Boise, Idaho, and St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Corozal, Belize, carrying his faith with him across the globe. He was a man of quiet depth who kept life interesting for everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Halsey Gildersleeve, and brother-in-law, William Ean Gildersleeve Jr.; his nieces, Karen Marie Pyott and Wendy Lynn Pyott; and a generation of great-nieces and nephews: Cassidy Bolane, Mason Matich, Rowan Matich, Kayla Bolane, Aidan Paternoster, and Olivia Paternoster. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Edward C. Halsey and Mrs. Dorothy B. Halsey.

Dick will be sorely missed, but his legacy lives on in the thousands of students he inspired and the many friends he made across three continents.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 2:00-4:00 PM at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Boise, ID.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to any of the following organizations that were close to Dick’s heart:
