Richard Daniel Harper, known to his friends and family as "Boonie," was born on March 26, 1979, in Monroe, Virginia. He passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, at Lynchburg General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was the beloved son of Richard E. Harper (Pat) and Cynthia Harper.
Daniel shared his life with his wife, Amanda, with whom he built a home filled with laughter, love, and memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His sons, Nolan and Chase, will forever remember their dad for his deep love, his steady presence, and the countless moments they shared together.
Daniel was an active member of the Clifton Masonic Lodge No. 73 for more than 20 years. He was raised as a Master Mason on August 16, 2007. He later served as Worshipful Master from 2012 to 2014, then as District Deputy Grand Master in 2015.
For the past eight years, Daniel served his community through his work at Johnson Health Center. He was deeply dedicated to the organization and its mission and took great pride in caring for both staff and patients.
When Daniel wasn't devoting himself to his family, he could often be found with a tool in his hand, helping someone in need. He was the person people called for a project, advice, or simply a laugh. There was little he couldn't fix and no limit to the way he showed up for others. His presence, kindness, and willingness to help will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Amanda Harper, and his two sons, Nolan Taress and Chase Harper. He is also survived by his brother, John Harper (Audrey); his sister, Laura Monroe (Eric); his parents-in-law, James and Brenda Cash; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, James Cash Jr., Ginger Eades (Ed), Angie Hurt (JT), and Tommy Cash; and his nieces and nephews: Emily Harper (Jeremy), Sabrina House (Justin), Sydney Campbell-Aaron (Parker), Daniel Grant Campbell (Olivia), Zach Hurt (Kourt), Anna Hurt, Geoff Woody (Jordan), Taylor Ellington (Rusty), Peyton Cash, Paxton Cash, and Mason Hurt. He is also survived by his lifelong friends John Burks-Silver (Bob), Mike Roberts (Meaghan), Bill Harper, and Sarah Harper (Ronnie); and many others he proudly called family.
A private burial will be held for Daniel, followed by a celebration of his life at the American Legion, Post 274 on Lakeview Drive, at 4 to 9 PM on Saturday, January 3, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to help support them as they mourn the sudden loss of their beloved husband and father.
While family and friends continue to grieve this sudden loss, they find comfort in the way Daniel lived his life with love, generosity, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
