Dr. Richard Jue, O.D.
May 5, 1958 – February 28, 2026
Richard Jue, 67, of Oakland, California, passed away on February 28, 2026. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Richard will be remembered for his big smile, humor, and joyful spirit.
Raised in Camarillo, California, Richard graduated as co-valedictorian of Rio Mesa High School, where he also ran track and played football. He earned a degree in Biological Science from UCLA, where he was a proud member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and later received his Doctor of Optometry degree from UC Berkeley. He went on to become the longtime owner of Viewpoint: An Optometric Practice in Montclair, where for 37 years he cared for patients and built lasting relationships in the community.
Richard shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Sue. He was a proud father to Scott (Adrianne) and Perry, and a loving grandfather (“Yeh-Yeh”) to Jordan and Devin. He is also survived by his siblings Shirley, Ron (Teresa), and Tim (Lani), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Richard loved oil painting, golf in Montclair, great food and wine, cocktail hour with friends, and trips to Las Vegas with Sue. A lifelong fan of Star Trek, he also looked forward to Burning Man and Warrior games. Richard enjoyed spirited conversations about politics and connecting with friends on social media.
A passionate advocate for colon cancer screening and an inspiration to many, Richard remained positive and courageous throughout his life.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 25, time and location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance at colorectalcancer.org.
