Richard "Rick" R. Kozak of Canton, Michigan passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. As his family would say with sadness and faith, "He has gone home to be with Jesus."
Rick was born on April 18, 1933, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, and was a proud graduate of Lincoln Park High School, Class of 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately after graduation and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida, Rick worked as a mechanic and developed skills that would be useful throughout his career.
He was the second oldest of eight children born to John and Frances (Kasinski) Kozak and, remarkably, the last surviving sibling. Rick lived with quiet strength and a deep appreciation for family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Brennan Kozak, and his children: Robert Kozak; Katherine Boon of Brooklyn, Michigan; James Kozak of Aloha, Oregon; Michelle Kotowicz of Westland, Michigan; and Richard Kozak, Jr. of Hillsboro, Oregon. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were a constant source of pride and joy.
A proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW), Rick worked as a Tool & Die Maker for several automakers and retired from General Motors after 25 years of dedicated service. He believed in honest work, showing up, and doing the job right—values he lived out daily.
Rick was known for his caring and compassionate heart, his steady smile, and his sense of humor. He was the kind of person who made others feel comfortable and welcome, whether through a kind word, a laugh, or simply being present.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life. Rick was an active member of Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Northville, Michigan, where he not only worshiped but served faithfully. He participated in many mission trips, quietly putting his faith into action. He trusted God deeply and lived with the assurance that this life was not the end of the story.
In retirement, Rick enjoyed playing pinochle and euchre. He also had a talent for woodcarving and enjoyed working with his hands.
A memorial service celebrating Rick's life and his new life in Christ will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, at Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Northville, Michigan. While he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace, fully healed, and rejoicing in the presence of his Savior.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
