Richard Kenneth Lowry of Alameda, California passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, at the age of 87, at Highland Hospital in Oakland, following a period of declining health.

Born on September 24, 1938, in New York City, Richard was the son of the late Malcolm Kenneth Lowry and the late Margaret Agnes Murrey. He was the devoted husband of Joanne Mildred Lowry for more than 56 years.

Richard is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Jennifer Anne MacDonald; son-in-law, Gregory Michael MacDonald; granddaughters, Grace Nicole MacDonald and Madeline Sophia MacDonald; sister, Patricia Shapen; and many nieces and nephews.

At age 19, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably in West Germany and other locations before his discharge in 1960 as an Airman First Class. He later earned an Associate of Science degree and went on to spend more than 30 years as a flight simulator manager at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, during its time as the Navy's Top Gun school.

After retiring, Richard and Joanne moved to Northern California to be closer to family, living in San Ramon for many years before settling in Alameda. Richard enjoyed traveling, staying active, spending time with family, and volunteering. He will be fondly remembered for his quiet kindness, generosity, and deep devotion to his loved ones.

The family gratefully acknowledges the compassionate care provided by the staff at Highland Hospital, Alameda Healthcare & Wellness Center, and Waters Edge Lodge.

In keeping with Richard's wishes, no formal services will be held. Cremation arrangements were made through the Trident Society.
