Richard Morsberger

Richard M. Morsberger, Jr., (75) of Hampton, VA, passed away on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026. Rick was born in Catonsville, Maryland, but has lived in Virginia for 55 years.

Rick was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Monna Saunders Morsberger; his children Richard III (Elena), Brandon (Lashundra), and Brian (Meghan); grandchildren Lorna, Nora, and Forest; and sisters Kathy Hild (Phil), Vickie McClung (Rick) and Rose Mumford (Ronnie). He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Sr. and Patricia, brother Michael and sister Barbara Kimbrough (Harold).

Rick devoted his life to his country and helping others. He retired from the Naval Aviation Depot at Oceana and the United States Air Force and flew his flag proudly. He volunteered for thirty years with the rescue squads in both Buckroe and Surry County.

Rick had a passion for hunting and just being in the woods. He was noted for his kindness, consideration and respect for others. He never met a stranger. You often heard him say “Tell the truth, even if it hurts”, “Nobody gets out of here alive” and to his grandchildren, “I love you from the heart.” If you told him you loved him, he would respond, “I love you more”.

Rick suffered for many years from complications of his exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam.

Thank you to all of his caregivers at both Sentara Care Plex and Riverside Hospitals, Amedisys Hospice, Riverside Rehabilitation Center, York County, the Hampton VA Medical Center, Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute and a special thank you to Dr. Ali at Virginia Oncology Associates for letting us know how special Rick was to him personally.

Rick chose to donate his body to the Virginia State Anatomical Program.

A memorial service will be held at Buckroe Baptist Church on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at 1:30 pm.
