Richard Nally

1944 - 2026

Richard Nally passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at the age of 81, in Montrose, Colorado. Raised in Byron, Illinois, he built his life and career in the south suburbs of Chicago before retiring to Colorado twenty-five years ago.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and physics from Northern Illinois University, followed by a master’s degree in School Business Administration.

He devoted his professional life to public education. He spent years teaching science at Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox, Illinois. He often said that one of his greatest joys was the classroom—working alongside students and encouraging curiosity, discovery, and growth. He later served as a school administrator and Director of Technology, helping students and educators navigate the emerging technological landscape.

Beyond the classroom, Richard was an active member of the Lions Club and Kiwanis Club, volunteering in various community and civic roles throughout his life.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue (Klinger) Nally; daughters Kimberly Nally and Lisa Thompson; and grandchildren Jared and Blake, who lovingly called him Paka. He treasured hiking and jeeping with his grandchildren in the Colorado mountains, sharing both his love of the outdoors and the science behind the world they explored. He is also survived by his brother, Tom (Joan) Nally; brother-in-law, Andy Klinger; and many cherished nephews (David, Robert, Michael, Patrick) and friends.

He could usually be found on the golf course, in the mountains, or in his woodshop. He shared his love of golfing, hiking, and traveling with Sue, and a passion for baking with his daughter, Kimberly. With quiet pride, he said his life was full and his bucket list complete.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Project Oz (https://www.projectoz.org/), a nonprofit youth organization that reflects Richard’s lifelong commitment to supporting young people—a cause close to his family and one his daughter Lisa has devoted a lifetime to.
