Richard “Dick” Perry Patterson died peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 26, 2026 in Dallas, TX. He was born in Kansas City, MO on July 23, 1937, to Howard and Marie. He attended Southwest High School in Kansas City and then the University of Kansas. In 1961 he married Sue Mosman Patterson, also from Kansas City. Dick and his family lived in Decatur, IL; Glenview, IL; Dallas, TX; St. Louis, MO and Leawood, KS. After retirement, Sue and Dick moved to Sarasota, FL, where they owned a Cookies by Design franchise for eight years. Because family was central to Sue and Dick, in 2005 they moved back to Dallas to be near many of their children and grandchildren.

Dick earned a BS in 1959 and an MBA in 1960 from the University of Kansas. At KU he served as chairman of the All-Student Council, and was President of his fraternity, Phi Delt Theta. He was also a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity and a member of the Sachem and Owl Society, senior and junior men’s honor societies.

Industry-wise, he held executive positions at banks in Chicago, Dallas, St Louis and Kansas City. He served on the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board created by Congress to regulate the Municipal Securities industry. He also served as the President of the Dealer Bank Association, a national trade association of banks with registered securities dealerships.

His Christian faith was central to his life and guided the way he cared for his family. As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, Dick most enjoyed being with family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sue, and his sister and brother-in-law Cynthia and Lyn Goodwin, and survived by his four children and their families: his son, Scott Patterson (Alisa) of Deerfield, Illinois; his daughter, Elizabeth Humeston of Dallas, Texas; his son, David Patterson (Katie) of Dallas, Texas; and his son, Mark Patterson (Wendy) of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Robbie Patterson (Jenn) of Austin, Texas; Aimee Patterson and Ari Patterson of Deerfield, Illinois; Mia Marchetti (Alex Humphries) of Dallas, Texas; Kristin Patterson of Dallas, Texas; Ben Patterson of Austin, Texas; Paige Patterson Walker (Dylan Walker) of Dallas, Texas; and Haley Kate Patterson of Santa Monica, California; and by two great-grandchildren, Sutton Marchetti and Bowen Walker, both of Dallas, Texas.
