Richard (Ric) Neil Van Lieu

Richard Neil Van Lieu, of Goshen, Ohio, born June 22, 1949, passed away on March 27, 2026 peacefully at home.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband to Kathy M Van Lieu for 52 years, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Richard truly never met a stranger—he had a natural ability to connect with people and made those around him feel welcomed, valued, and respected.

Richard dedicated over 50 years of his life to the retail furniture business, where his strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to customer service earned him the respect and admiration of both colleagues and customers. He took pride in his work and built lasting relationships throughout his career, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and trust.

A polio survivor, Richard faced extraordinary challenges early in life. As a child, he spent approximately one and a half years in an iron lung, demonstrating resilience, strength, and perseverance that would define his character throughout his life. His experience overcoming such adversity became part of the foundation of his enduring spirit and outlook on life.

Outside of his career, Richard embraced life with a deep love for travel and a strong appreciation for nature.

Whether exploring new places or simply enjoying the beauty around him, he found joy in life's experiences and shared that joy with others. He was also a generous and giving person who supported his community and contributed to many causes over the years, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.

In a final act of generosity and selflessness, Richard donated his body to science at UC Hospital in Cincinnati. His contribution will help advance medical research and education, supporting future generations of healthcare professionals and aiding in the development of new treatments and scientific understanding.

Family was the cornerstone of Richard's life. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. He was a devoted father to Zachary Van Lieu; a loving father-in-law to Kristina Van Lieu; and a proud grandfather to Austin Van Lieu and Gracie Van Lieu. He was also a loving father to Jessica Van Lieu, a proud grandfather to Ashley Van Lieu and Katie Goldner, and a cherished great-grandfather to Dakota, Mac, and Violet.

Richard's presence brought warmth and stability to his family, and his guidance and love will continue to live on through them. His memory will be treasured not only by his family, but also by friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generous spirit, resilience and the lasting impact he made on the lives of others.

Richard asked that there be no memorial in his honor but did request that donations be made on his behalf to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
